Fold-over Greeting Card – Set of 12
“A Glad New Year”
Printed in winter, 2015
♥ In 1786 at the age of 37, German writer Johann Wolfgang von Goethe voluntarily abandoned an established career and notoriety as a writer to drench himself in a multi-year immersion of Italian art in 16th-century Italy. He kept journals and wrote letters to friends embellishing on his grand adventure, which years later were published in the book, Italian Journey.
“Whatever you can do or dream you can, begin it. Boldness has genius, power and magic in it.”
– Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
In 2015 I abandoned a career in commercial graphic design to chase a dream about the “genius, power and magic” of artistic printing & a more personal connection. Artships Press is my “Italian Journey” through the decorative art and craft aesthetic of the 20th-century and this is my first “letterpress” correspondence card.
Two-sided letterpress print with dramatic tonal contrast and peek-a-boo liner decoratively wrapped in red satin ribbon. Produced with photopolymer plates and put to rest on European mold made cotton paper.
Imperfectly handmade and 100% human-powered on a Chandler and Price Platen press at Kiss The Paper in Hamilton, Canada.
